ESMA 2020 PROJECT: INSECT MODELING

Discover one of my second-year projects at ESMA in 2020. The challenge was to model, texture, create an environment, and perform compositing for an insect of our choice.

For the completion of this project, I used the software programs Maya, Renderman, and Nuke.

Creating Realistic Minecraft in Blender

This project offered us complete creative freedom. We had a floor, two walls, and a camera animation with an animated sphere, from which we could breathe life into the universe of our choice. The goal was to gather all students' creations at the end, combining them to achieve a seamless transition between different artworks.

ORIGINALMODIFIER

For my part, I chose to create my project in the Minecraft universe using the Blender software, which is also an open-source tool. I started by building a structure in the Minecraft game, and then I extracted my construction area using specific tools. Afterward, I imported this creation into Blender.

In Blender, I made several modifications, including adjusting the textures to add Subsurface Scattering (SSS), displacement, as well as a normal map. I also applied a specular effect to give the impression that certain blocks were wet, in order to make the rendering more realistic. I incorporated lighting effects, animated elements of the scene, and then replaced the sphere with my own character, which I also animated.

Integrating a 3D Model into a Video with Nuke and Maya

This project involved a tracking exercise in Nuke, where we had to integrate a 3D model that we had created specifically for the occasion into an existing video that we had either filmed or found on the internet. The first step was to track the video in Nuke to obtain a 3D camera. Then, we imported this camera into Maya, where we had our object to track.
